An independent literary house for women, by women.
Penwoman is an independent, non-profit literary house dedicated to advancing women's voices in literature, culture, and the historical record.
We recognise women as writers, memory-keepers, cultivators of culture, rebels and changemakers, disruptors as much as great agents of influence, whose words have long preserved histories, challenged conventions, and shaped societies. We believe their stories, particularly those shaped by displacement, conflict, and adversity in recent years, are indispensable to our understanding of our societies. At a time of profound social and technological change, these perspectives must remain central to the conversations and decisions shaping our collective future.
Through writing circles, workshops, literary gatherings and collaborations, we bring together women across generations, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds to nurture their literary craft, explore their experiences, and contribute to our evolving cultural heritage.
Literature is a record of the world as it is and as it was, but also a means of imagining what it could be.
